Confessions of an Autistic person-I don’t do well in crowds

Whenever I end up in a crowd, I feel very overwhelmed. My anxiety skyrockets and I find myself only thinking “get out!! Get out!! Get out!! NEED SPACE!! NEED QUIET!!” My hypersensitivity to sound makes being in crowds uncomfortable.

It’s not that I don’t like people, It’s just that so many people, and so much noise, and being surrounded on all sides and occasionally bumped into makes me feel overwhelmed. Once I am out of the crowd I feel much better. My brain stops whirling and I can breathe again.
